Sabiha Gokcen Airport, named after the world’s first female pilot, has been operational since 2001. The airport is located in Pendik district on the Asian side of Istanbul, an area that is relatively close to the city centre. Besiktas is one of the most popular social and cultural centres of Istanbul with numerous theatres, performance halls, restaurants, bars, and cafes. The district is also a central point for transportation throughout the city with ferry ports and bus stations that connect to various different areas. The distance from Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Besiktas is about 45 km. Direct travel with a taxi from Sabiha Gokcen airport would take around 50 minutes to reach Besiktas while alternatives such as shuttle take a bit longer, as there is no direct bus to Besiktas from Sabiha Gokcen Airport. This makes taxi a practical and comfortable option if you’re travelling to Besiktas, as long as you’re travelling with 3 people or less. Transfer with a taxi from Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Besiktas will take around 50 minutes, depending on traffic.
Where to find a yellow taxi
There’s almost always an available yellow taxi at Sabiha Gokcen Airport. The cabstand is right outside the arrivals hall and very easy to find. There are also signs that guide you to the airport cabstand.

Yellow taxi transfer from Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Besiktas will cost around 25€. Taxis in Istanbul work on a meter, which means if you run into traffic jams (very likely), the total cost of the ride can be higher than anticipated.
Since Besiktas is located on the European side of Istanbul, you will need to take one of the bridges, which has a toll free of 1.5€. Also keep in mind that if the driver takes a highway before or after the bridge, there may be additional toll charges.

Unfortunately, there is no direct shuttle bus from Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Besiktas. However, you can take the shuttle bus to Kadikoy and hop on a ferry heading to Besiktas. Alternatively, you can take the shuttle to Taksim and use one of the buses coded 42T, 40T or 25T and get off at Besiktas station. Shuttles from Sabiha Gokcen Airport are active throughout the day with a new trip every 30 minutes except between 01.00 and 03.30 in the night.

The shuttle station is right outside the arrivals hall. You can also follow the shuttle signs in order to reach the bus station area.
Shuttle fare from Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Besiktas
The shuttle bus to Taksim costs 3€ (18 TL) while Kadikoy shuttle costs 2€ (14 TL). Whether you choose to take the ferry from Kadikoy or the bus from Taksim to reach Besiktas, you will need an IstanbulKart, which you can purchase and load credit on at the airport. Each public transport will cost 0.40€ (2.60 TL).

Unfortunately, there is no metro from Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Besiktas. A construction project is ongoing and planned to be completed by 2021.
